The NGO Infocentre is appalled by the unethical and immoral usurpation of its intellectual property over the “Media Mirror” programme for continuing monitoring and analysis of the media by the “Dimitrija Čupovski” Institute.

The Institute published a quantitative media monitoring report named “Media Mirror”, which is an obvious and deplorable attempt to “borrow” the brand-name and the reputation of NGO Infocentre’s “Media Mirror” monitoring programme, which has been published for five years and is well known to all media and media organisations, public and state institutions, all international organizations present in the country, the diplomatic corps and the general public.

The Institute has copied the name of our programme, misleading those institutions and the general public, through unauthorized use and infringement on our intellectual property rights.  The NGO Infocentre has already informed officially all Macedonian and international organizations and institutions that regularly receive and read the “Media Mirror” reports about those actions of the “Dimitrija Čupovski“ Institute.

The NGO Infocentre already took the steps and activities to seek legal protection for the infringements of our intellectual property rights.

At the same time, we kindly ask the representatives of “Dimitrija Čupovski“ Institute to find a new name for its monitoring programme and to try and build it into reputable brand-name on its own merit.

The NGO Infocentre’s “Media Mirror” Programme has been continuously implemented since May 2005, with financial support by the Swedish Helsinki Committee of Human Rights, the U.S. Embassy in Macedonia and the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia. The programme aims to monitor and analyze the quality of information that the citizens get from the media on key social processes in Macedonia – elections, reforms, decentralisation, relations with the neighbouring countries, European integrations, etc.  So far, a total of 38 reports were published under the auspices of the “Media Mirror” Programme. The first report for 2010 is due by the end of April 2010, and will be dedicated to media coverage of the name-dispute with Greece.
